Required software:
Optional software:
Optional software:
- Windows XP or lower: Statup Control Panel
- Windows Vista: Windows Defender (prepackaged)
Required actions:
- If you have Quicktime Alternative installed already, uninstall it temporarily via Start : Programs : Quicktime Alternative : Uninstall. This is required to keep it from interfering with real Quicktime which the iTunes installer installs automatically.
- Install iTunes. It is recommended that you uncheck Automatically update iTunes, Quicktime and other Apple software, as this might interfere with Quicktime Alternative (and it hogs system resources). Regardless, it will still install Apple Software Update in the belief that you need it. As mentioned above, this will automatically install Quicktime, which will take a while.
- Uncheck Open iTunes after the installer exits and select Finish.
- Uninstall Quicktime via Start : Programs : Quicktime : Uninstall Quicktime.
- Select Remove. Select Yes to confirm.
- You will receive a prompt informing you that all running Quicktime applications will be shut down. Select OK.
- You will receive a prompt informing you that a reboot will be required to complete the setup. Select OK.
- The uninstall process will now take its good old time to remove the bloat, and remove backup files of the bloat.
- When it's finished, reboot.
- Install/Reinstall Quicktime Alternative.
- If you have an iPod and want iTunes to automatically handle it, then skip these steps. If you have an iPod and have another application that handles it, you must complete these steps to prevent iTunes from interrupting...
- Go to Start : Control Panel : Administrative Tools : Services.
- Right click on the iPod Service service and select Properties.
- Select Stop.
- Select Manual from the Startup type dropdown.
- Select OK.
- Go to Start : Control Panel : Administrative Tools : Services.
Optional actions (disabling a lot of unnecessary shit that Apple firmly believes you require):
- On Windows XP or lower, start the Startup Control Panel Applet...
- Go to the HKLM / Run tab.
- Right click on iTunes or iTunesHelper and select Delete.
- Unless you have a device you want to automatically synchronize with iTunes when connected, right click on MobileMe or AppleSyncNotifier and select Delete.
- Go to the HKLM / Run tab.
- On Windows Vista, start Windows Defender...
- Select Tools, then Software Explorer.
- Select the Show for all users button.
- Select the iTunes startup Program, then the Remove button, then Yes.
- Unless you have a device you want to automatically synchronize with iTunes when connected, select the MobileMe startup program, then the Remove button, then Yes.
- Select Tools, then Software Explorer.
- Go to Start : Control Panel : Add/Remove Programs.
- Select Apple Software Update, then Uninstall.
- Unless you have an "Apple Mobile Device" (my guess is that refers only to iPhones right now), select Apple Mobile Device Support then Uninstall.
